Spring City's downtown spreads across three streets that keep different hours. Spring City Mill Studios on Bridge Street normally opens to visitors only by appointment. Riveredge Square on Riverside Drive sits along the Schuylkill River Trail. Main Street does its best business after dark. On the third Saturday of each month, the borough opens all three on the same day, starting at noon. The next one is Saturday, November 21.
The borough's announcement maps the route as Bridge Street to Main Street and Riverside Drive. The hours from October's event suggest a slightly different order. Stops that close early come first, and stops that open late come last.
The 4 p.m. Handoff
The borough's calendar listed the October 17 event from noon to 10 p.m. Spring-Ford Press published October's hours by business, and grouping them by street shows the pattern.
| Stop | Street | October 17 hours |
|---|---|---|
| Misfit Hair Studio | Bridge Street | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Spring City Mill Studios | Bridge Street | Noon, most studios until 4 p.m. |
| Craig's Cat Cafe | Riverside Drive | Noon to 2 p.m. family activities |
| Chaos Piercing | Riverside Drive | Walk-ins until 7 p.m. |
| Local Things | Main Street | 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
| Four Winds Tattoo | Main Street | Noon to 8 p.m. |
| Tuned Up Brewery | Main Street | Opens 5 p.m. |
| The Gem Music Hall | Main Street | Doors 5 p.m., show 8 p.m. |
| Glass Pound Studio | Main Street | 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. |
| Punch Buggy Brewing Company | Main Street | Noon to 11 p.m. |
Activity on Bridge Street mostly wraps up by 4 p.m. Main Street's evening stops start opening around 5. Specific hours and activities for November 21 haven't been posted, so treat the October times as a guide to how the day is likely to run. Business hours could change.
Start at the Mill, Because It Closes First
Spring City Mill Studios at 20 E. Bridge Street is the stop you can't easily get into on a regular weekend. The building is a three-story knitting mill built in 1896 and renovated into space for more than 20 working artists and creatives. They include painters, photographers, sculptors, weavers, printmakers and writers. On an ordinary day, visitors see individual studios by appointment.
On Spring City Saturday, the doors open at noon. In October, more than a dozen artists welcomed visitors, most stayed open until 4 p.m., and some offered demonstrations or workshops. The borough's own pitch is to start the day here, meet the artists, and maybe find something to take home.
Misfit Hair Studio is also on Bridge Street, in the Spring City Shopping Center at 51 E. Bridge. In October it offered popcorn and a raffle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both Bridge Street stops shut down around the same time, so the mill and Misfit make a natural first hour or two.
Riverside Drive Fills the Middle of the Afternoon
From Bridge Street, Riveredge Square on Riverside Drive is the stop on the Schuylkill River Trail. It's also where the newest restaurant in this lineup opened. Baithak Indian Cuisine took over 10 Riverside Drive this fall, serves North Indian food, and held its grand opening on October 11. It replaced Desi Swaad, which opened in 2025 and closed September 27, 2026. Spring-Ford Press reported that Desi Swaad's owners announced in their farewell message that new ownership would keep an Indian restaurant at the address under the Baithak name.
Baithak shares Riveredge Square with Craig's Cat Cafe, The Latin Corner, and Chaos Piercing, Tattoo, and Studio. In October, Craig's Cat Cafe ran family activities from noon to 2 p.m., and Chaos took walk-in piercings until 7 p.m. The borough's list also names The Latin Corner, Wilke's Pizzeria & Grille, the "Official" Spring-Ford Diner and The Glass Shop as places worth a stop while walking around town. With that many options, Riverside Drive works for a midafternoon meal between the mill closing and Main Street's evening opening.
Main Street Takes the Evening
Main Street has the longest hours of the three, and this year it added a big evening stop. The Spring City Hotel restaurant at 88 N. Main Street was closed for nearly two years. Bill and Debbie Hoffman ran it for more than 40 years and announced their retirement in December 2024. They still own the property. The new management set the reopening for October 18. Spring-Ford Press listed the restaurant's return among this year's Main Street reopenings in an October 22 article.
Spring-Ford Press reported that Executive Chef Tim Diable, a 2016 graduate of L'Academie de Cuisine, planned a menu mixing familiar favorites with new dishes, including the return of Chicken Kiev. The announced schedule has the restaurant open Thursday through Monday starting at 3 p.m. It stays open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If that schedule holds, the hotel opens on November 21 just as the mill studios begin closing. The Spring City Hotel is also on the borough's list of participating locations.
The rest of Main Street fills in around it. In October, Local Things, the general store from Alisan Road Mercantile, was open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Glass Pound Studio stayed open until 10 p.m., and Punch Buggy Brewing Company until 11. Tuned Up Brewery opened at 5 p.m. with pumpkin painting. The Gem Music Hall opened early at 5 p.m. for food and drinks before an 8 p.m. show by Highfield, Poppy, and The Three 4 Tens/Kat Jagger. You could stop in without a ticket, but staying for the show meant paying admission. For November, check The Gem's calendar before you go.
Which Side of Main Street to Park On
Because so much of the day happens after dark, parking rules matter more than they used to. In August, Borough Council adopted Ordinance 590 on a 3-2 vote. It extends the 90-minute parking limit on the east side of Main Street to 8 a.m. through 9 p.m., seven days a week. Spring-Ford Press reported that officials described the change as a way to keep spaces open for downtown shoppers and diners.
- East side, 90 minutes until 9 p.m.: from the former National Bank of Spring City building north to Tuned Up Brewery, near Yost Avenue. That stretch includes Punch Buggy Brewing Company, Wild Blooms Florals, Alisan Road Mercantile and L&W Group Printing.
- West side, unchanged: the side with The Gem Music Hall and Three Brothers Grill keeps the 6 p.m. cutoff.
- Off the street: there is a municipal parking lot at Main Street and Yost Avenue.
Posted signs are the final word on any given space. For an evening that runs through an 8 p.m. show at The Gem, the Yost Avenue lot keeps the time limits out of the picture.
Why Main Street Might Close for It Someday
The format may still change. Main Street was closed between New Street and Hall Street for the October 3 Music & Market Festival. Afterward, Matt Doyen, owner of Alisan Road Mercantile at 89 N. Main Street, told the borough's parks and recreation committee that his store made nearly as much in the five-hour festival as in all of September. "It was our best day ever at the shop by far," he said, according to Spring-Ford Press. He also told the committee, "We have all this awesome momentum, but it's still very fragile here."
That discussion led straight to Spring City Saturday. Committee Chair and Borough Councilor Matt Handley said organizers had talked about closing Main Street for the monthly event. They generally agreed it would be too ambitious this year, so he described the idea as "on the vision board." Committee members also floated moving Community Day, usually held at Brown Street Park in late May or early June, to Main Street. No decisions were made, and any street closure would need Borough Council approval. November 21 is the last date on the current schedule. Organizers hope to make the third Saturday a monthly tradition, but no later dates have been set.
A few more Main Street changes are on the way. Spring City Coffee is expected to open in early 2027. The roughly 300-square-foot storefront at 85 N. Main Street, Pop's Ice Cream's original home, is looking for an operator for an ice cream shop, water ice, candy, or another small food business. On November 21, the mill opens at noon, and Punch Buggy stays open until 11 p.m. if it keeps October's hours.
